In 2015, The Wilson County Public Libraries participated in a CTLS grant called Bots and Books which allowed the library system to obtain 4 laptops and 4 WeDo Robotics kits. Another feature of the grant later gave us additional materials including 4 WeDo extension kits. The library bought 2 more WeDo kits through the technology budget and, through a grant from Dollar General, the library system was able to add 5 more WeDo kits and twelve extension kits. Through an EDGE Reimbursement Grant, we also acquired 5 additional laptops. We now have 11 WeDo kits and 16 extension kits and 11 laptops that have the software loaded on them.
We did our first Robotics Camp at all three branches of the library, Poth, Floresville, and Stockdale, during Spring Break in March of 2015. During Summer Reading 2015, the Robotics Camp was a weekly occurrence in Floresville on Mondays and in Stockdale on Thursdays. We also took it to the LVISD Reading Matters summer program in LaVernia one night in June and one night in July.
The library is now working at helping North and South Elementary in the Floresville ISD to begin robotics clubs and, in the Spring, we hope to start a Homeschool Robotics Club.
